Quay Arts Winter/Spring Transmission Isle of Wight News: Island ...

Quay Arts kick-off the Winter/Spring season with an exciting 13 week cross-disciplinary collaborative exhibition by 2012 graduates from Southampton Solent University School of Art & Design.

Exhibition Preview: Wednesday 12th December 6 ? 9pm All Welcome

Transmission occupies three gallery spaces at Quay Arts combining the work of over 30 selected alumni from across several courses within Solent?s School of Art & Design including, Fine Art, Photography, Illustration, Graphic Design, as well as Product Design, Animation and Gaming.

CREATIVE CONFERENCE DAYS:
Day 1: Wednesday 23 January
Day 2: Tuesday 12 February?

The exhibition will evolve throughout its duration; three shows will eventually unfold within the gallery spaces over the two and a half month period. The first exhibition will be co-curated by Quay Arts? Exhibitions Organiser, Georgia Newman & Solent University Senior Lecturer in Photography & Visual Arts, Stephen Brigdale. This will form the basis of the next show which will be developed, re-hung and curated by third-year students from the University?s School of Art & Design, members of our Young Quay team and a guest curator in January 2013.? A third exhibition will take place in February.

Transmission offers a fresh and vibrant insight into the work created by contemporary art and design graduates and students. With each work expressing a very particular style and voice, the exhibition allows early career artists & designers to represent new ideas, techniques and attitudes in an innovative and dynamic environment. The cross-disciplinary approach incorporates nonlinear and narrative driven film pieces in our designated film space. Gaming students work to create an exciting interactive piece; fine art and photography graduates provide installations while mixed media and print, graphic design and illustration graduates offer intriguing and curious works which invite the viewer to act and respond in a very physical and immediate way.

Also, look out for our Takeaways-Takeover in the Caf?, where current students and graduates will be selling 2D works, limited edition prints, photographs, books, postcards and other works, which will be ready for you to purchase and take away on the same day.
?
In addition to the exhibition, opportunities for students and young people, and support for emerging artists & designers will be delivered through an engaging programme of events including a conference on working in the creative industries led by artists and careers specialists. There will also be gallery talks and tours on Wed 23 Jan & Tue 12 Feb and an end of show D/VJ party by Headfunk which also celebrates the opening of the IOW College Response Show in the Learning Curve Gallery on Sat 16 Mar.
