A recent survey from BMO Insurance found that just half of Canadians purchase travel insurance before leaving home. With 83% of us saying we?re planning to travel between May and September, that?s a lot of travellers who opt to travel without insurance.
As an avid traveller, I know choosing and understanding travel insurance can be confusing and frustrating. In the hopes of answering some of our Canoe.ca and Sun Media readers? most asked travel insurance questions, Travelzoo Canada?s travel insurance expert Michael Duchesne joined us for a live chat yesterday. These are his top tips for choosing an insurance provider and finding the very best deal on travel insurance.
Safe travels!
I?m travelling from PEI to Banff. Since I?m not leaving Canada, do I need to buy extra travel insurance? ? Reb82
Michael Duchesne: If you plan to travel outside of your home province, it is strongly recommended that you obtain additional private medical insurance and fully understand what your policy covers. This comes into play with things like trip cancellation or interruption insurance, which covers pre-paid non-refundable expenses should your travel plans be interrupted or cancelled.
I?m flying to Central America. What if I cancel my trip for reasons that are not medical or emergency, will insurance cover that?? ? MFJ
MD: Trip cancellation and travel health insurance are two distinct services. Trip cancellation covers pre-paid and non-refundable expenses if your plans are interrupted or cancelled. The five main types of insurance are generally sold in a combo of sorts. If you only want one, then ask for it and ask whether there are incentives to upgrade to all or just some. A comprehensive package covers trip cancellation and interruption, evacuation, medical and baggage, even flight insurance.
My 92 year old mother in law wants to go on a one week Alaska cruise. Trip leaves and returns to Vancouver, where we live. She will probably stay on the ship the whole time. She has had heart attack and a cancer issue which she takes medication for. She is OK now. I am finding that companies do not offer coverage over 90 years old. Your advice. ? John
MD: I would encourage you search for specialist travel insurers. Select insurance companies cover people if their medical conditions are under control and stable for certain period. As a caveat, be advised that a minor change in someone?s prescription or medication can mean that the medical condition is not considered ?stable?.
I cannot help but be cynical with insurance because of the number of incidents that I hear of where the insurance company refuses coverage for some technicality. How can I be sure that I am not just wasting my money on a premium where coverage will be denied, delayed or altered if I should ever have to use it? ? John Wood
MD: Because of our public healthcare system, many Canadians are unaware of the cost of hospitalization and treatment outside of their own borders. This is where planning comes into play. Ask a litany of questions when speaking with potential providers. The cost to purchase trip insurance is nominal when you consider what it could cost for a stay in hospital outside of Canada. Everyone should strive for peace of mind, because you have already taken time to plan a trip and spent money.
Michael, what are some questions travellers should be asking their travel insurance providers? ? Nicole
I would suggest asking what is the coverage cap? Does it cover trips longer than 30 days? Keep in mind that travel agents recommend that you get travel insurance because they get a percentage when you buy it, and because they could be held liable for losses if insurance options aren?t explained correctly. While they can give you information and provide direction, they are not insurance agents. It?s very important to direct specific questions to the insurance provider.

NEW YORK (AP) - Once the Subway Series rolled around, the New York Mets got on the right track.
Challenged by fed-up manager Terry Collins, slumping infielders Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada sparked a five-run first inning that kept the Mets sailing along in this surprising set with a 9-4 victory over the Yankees on Wednesday night.
Tejada hit a leadoff single, Davis drove in two runs and the fourth-place Mets won with Jeremy Hefner on the mound for the first time all season. They've taken three in a row from their crosstown rivals for their first four-game winning streak of the year and will go for a Big Apple whitewash in the series finale Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.
"Some great at-bats in the first inning," Collins said. "I just think there's a different attitude in the clubhouse."
Yankees starter David Phelps (3-3) got only one out - but said his health was not an issue. The right-hander, who had trouble with his command, left his previous outing after he was hit on the right forearm by a line drive.
"It's nothing at all. Arm felt great today. Just wasn't making pitches," he said. "The ball was just up and in the middle of the plate a lot."
The suddenly-slumping Yankees dropped their fourth in a row. Despite a rash of injuries to star players, they began the night a game behind first-place Boston in the AL East.
"The Mets have really had our number," center fielder Brett Gardner said.
By the late innings Mets fans were chanting "You can't beat us!" in a mostly empty Yankee Stadium, where the outlines of a soccer field were still visible on the grass following Saturday night's exhibition match between English Premier League teams Chelsea and Manchester City.
After rallying two nights in a row back home at Citi Field for a pair of tense, 2-1 wins, the Mets made this one a virtual laugher right off the bat by building an 8-0 lead. But they still had their confounding moments - Tejada had another mental lapse at shortstop that helped the Yankees score twice in the sixth.
That brought Collins, looking more than a little irritated, to the top step of the dugout. He stared out in Tejada's direction and then jotted something down on a piece of paper.
"I have to concentrate on my job," Tejada said. "I have to get better every day and go play hard every day."
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Tejada limped off the field with a sore quadriceps. He was hurt chasing a foul fly down the left-field line and will be examined Thursday morning, Collins said.
"I don't think it's too bad," Tejada said.
Without divulging details, Collins acknowledged before the game that he met Tuesday night with Davis and Tejada and told them in no uncertain terms it was time to snap out of it and start producing - right now.
WFAN radio reported both players were informed they were on the edge of being demoted to the minors.
In the first inning, they responded.
"Obviously, I don't like playing bad," Davis said. "The fire's been lit for a while. I've been upset all year."
Tejada snapped an 0-for-12 skid and scored from first on Daniel Murphy's double to deep right-center - finally a drive off his bat that Gardner couldn't chase down - and the Mets were ahead 1-0 after three pitches.
Gardner robbed Murphy of extra bases with two spectacular catches the previous two nights.
John Buck beat the defensive shift with an RBI single to right and the Mets scored again when third baseman Jayson Nix bobbled Marlon Byrd's RBI grounder for an error.
Davis was batting .152 when he stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. He worked an 0-2 count full and lashed a sharp single past shortstop to make it 5-0.
"That's a five-star at-bat if you ask me. With guys in scoring position, that was huge," Buck said. "You can just see the quality of his at-bats literally the last week. They're completely different."
That was it for Phelps. The last Yankees starter who failed to get more than one out in a game was Darrell Rasner on May 19, 2007, also against the Mets, according to STATS.
"He just didn't have it," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He felt great yesterday, he just had a stinker."
Davis later hit a line-drive single to center, another encouraging sign. He began the night 4 for 53 (.075) with 24 strikeouts in his past 16 games - and hitless since a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning to beat Atlanta on Sunday night.
Hefner (1-5) gave up three runs and nine hits, including Brennan Boesch's solo homer, over six innings in his second start since his Oklahoma hometown was ravaged by a tornado last week. The Mets lost all nine of his previous starts this season - and even when he made his lone relief appearance.
"It's great to win, but more importantly keep our team winning streak going,"' Hefner said.
Byrd homered and Lucas Duda, who had the game-winning hit off Mariano Rivera on Tuesday night, added a two-run double for the Mets, who scored their most runs since a 16-5 win April 12 in Minnesota.
NOTES: Mets RHP Dillon Gee (2-6, 6.34 ERA) faces LHP Vidal Nuno (1-1, 1.93) in the Subway Series finale Thursday night. ... It was Hefner's first start at Yankee Stadium.

When you're single, you can have plenty of hoe friends. ?Hell, you might even be the hoe friend. ?They're fun when you're single; like to party a lot, make great wingwomen, and don't annoy you with all of their boyfriend talk.
But when you get you a man, especially if he's a baller, you know how instantly overprotective you can get. ?Suddenly your hoe friends' behavior becomes not so fun, and can leave you pissed off.
Now, this friend can really and truly be your friend! But which is stronger, her friendship loyalty or her hoeness? You really never know until you are put in that situation. Remember, trust people to be who they are...
And even worse, how would you tell your friend that she cant come around your man because you don't trust her? Listen. Those problems would end a friendship. ?
To prevent all of this, you have to set the lines early. ?You can't let your hoe friend have that brother/sister relationship with your man like some of your friends do. If you ask me, I don't even like them liking pictures on Instagram...but that might be too far.
Ladies, how you do handle hoe friends and your men?
Fellas, what do you do when you notice your woman's friend being inappropriate with you?

Telly, a service that helps you create, discover and share videos on your mobile device, is launching a completely redesigned and tablet-optimized version of its app today. In an attempt to build on its growing user base, Telly is introducing a new tablet design that was built from the ground-up for the larger screen size with a few new notable features. The larger interface is easier to navigate, with extra room being taken up by "My Telly" and "Popular" feeds to help discovery. The main portion of the UI is comprised of a new "carousel view", which makes it simple to swipe between videos and browse for something interesting to watch.
Along with the new interface improvements, Telly is also introducing two new features to improve sharing. Both NFC sharing between two devices and friend tagging (by their @name) will hopefully improve discoverability and sharing between Telly users. Video is one of the main selling points for tablets nowadays, and it's important to see Telly working on improving its tablet experience if it hopes to grow its user base going forward. You can grab a download of the latest Telly app at the Play Store link above.

Looks like we can add ?Hornswoggle? to the list of lucky charms: After the WWE star signed on to play the title role in a reboot of horror series ?Leprechaun,? the film has finally found its director.
The Wrap reports that visual effects specialist Zach Lipovsky will helm the long-awaited feature, based on the 1993 flick starring Warwick Davis and Jennifer Anniston. Lipovsky, who got his big break when he won the short-lived Steven Spielberg-Mark Burnett reality series ?On the Lot,? has directed numerous short films and TV movies, but never a theatrical feature.
?Leprechaun,? which toed the line between horror and comedy and spawned several sequels, focused on an evil leprechaun searching for his pot of gold and dodging four-leaf clovers. Producers of the reboot have been mum about what screenwriter Harris Wilkinson?s script entails, preferring the franchise?s new direction remain a mystery ? though Hornswoggle?s WWE affiliation (and Irish in-the-ring persona) ensures that the new villain should be able to kick some gold-stealing butt.
The film is a joint venture between Lionsgate and WWE studios. No word yet on production or release dates, but here?s hoping Hornswoggle?s involvement keeps the tongue-in-cheek spirit of the original intact.

REDLANDS ? Investigators have determined that early reports of a police impersonator that pulled over a Redlands Unified School District bus last week has been resolved. Police announced on Monday that it was a sworn law enforcement officer that performed a legal traffic stop.
The driver of the RUSD bus had reported to Redlands police that she had been pulled over by someone impersonating a police officer, said city spokesman Carl Baker.?The bus had just exited Interstate 10 at University St., turned west onto Citrus Ave. at about 2:40 p.m. on May 17 when the driver was pulled over by a silver sedan with blue and red flashing lights in the windshield, said Baker.
Initial reports are that the driver of the sedan approached the bus driver, identified himself as a police officer and showed a gold, star-shaped badge. The suspected imposter returned to his vehicle and drove away when the bus driver said she was calling the California Highway Patrol.
Police confirmed that the driver of the sedan was a sworn officer for another regional agency. Baker said the officer disputes the bus driver?s report that he did not identify himself and that he drove away when she threatened to call the CHP.
Investigators determined that the traffic stop was legal and the officer, exercising his discretion, did not issue a citation to the bus driver.
Police issued descriptions of both the driver of the sedan and the vehicle. The sworn officer had an identification card clipped to his shirt with the word ?investigator? written in red across the top.
Baker said there have not been any reports of similar incidents ?for years? and were under ?different circumstances.?

Associated Press AMSTERDAM With U.S. markets closed, world stocks ended Monday mostly higher ? with Japan the notable exception as the Nikkei sold off sharply for the second time in a week. The decline came after Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Karoda said over the weekend Japanese interest rates could rise without causing instability, despite the country?s large national debt. The Nikkei 225 shed 3.2 percent to close at 14,142.65, with exporters hit hardest due to the rising yen. That?s the reverse of the picture for most of this year, as yen losses have helped propel the index to a 36 percent gain since January. Among major losers Monday, Nissan Motor Corp. dropped 6.8 percent. Yamaha Motor Co. tumbled 7.9 percent. Sony Corp. slid 6.3 percent. The index also lost 7.3 percent Thursday, as investors have begun to wonder whether potential benefits of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe?s aggressive campaign to lift consumer prices and encourage borrowing and spending already have been priced in. In European trading, Germany?s DAX rose 0.9 percent to 8,381.30. France?s CAC-40 advanced 0.9 percent to 3,994.25. Markets in Britain and the U.S. were closed for public holidays. European Central Bank board member Joerg Asmussen said in a speech in Berlin that with the Eurozone countries in recession, the bank would continue to pursue easy monetary policy ?as long as necessary.?

Why spend hours digging through your closet trying to color-match the perfect outfit when with a little technology your clothing can match itself automatically?
If you're not afraid of tackling a little electronics, including wiring and programming (plus a little sewing) you can turn a ruffled scarf into a glowing accent piece that's always the perfect color thanks to a built-in optical sensor. The heart of the hack is a $25 FLORA wearable electronics board and the $10 sensor, but when you crunch the numbers it's still a lot cheaper than buying a separate scarf for every garment in your closet.

There are so many great video games out there, and so little time to play them. HowLongToBeat is a community-based site that predicts how long you'll need to get through various video games to help you better plan which one to play next.
Once you navigate to the site and create an account, you can browse through a list of thousands of video games. Click the one you're interested in, and the site will tell you how long it should take you to complete the game if you're only interested in the main quest, if you want to complete the side objectives, and if you want to truly discover every nook and cranny the game has to offer. The times are all based on community members' reports, so popular games probably have more accurate data, but I couldn't find a game that wasn't at least listed.
For the curious among you, you can dive deeper into each game's page to find discussions and user reviews, see what platforms people are playing it on, and time yourself against the fastest-reported speedrun. Once you complete a game yourself, you can add your own time to the database to keep improving the service. If HowLongToBeat taught me anything, it's that I own far more games than I have time to play, but it at least helped me prioritize which ones I might get through during this long weekend.

LONDON/NAIROBI (Reuters) - One of two men arrested over the murder of a British soldier in a London street was detained in Kenya in 2010 on suspicion of seeking to train with an al Qaeda-linked group in Somalia, Kenyan police said on Sunday.
Confirmation that Michael Adebolajo was held in Kenya and deported to London will intensify calls for Britain's spy agencies to explain what they knew about the suspect and whether they could have done more to prevent Lee Rigby's killing on Wednesday.
The British parliament's security committee will next week investigate the security services' actions in the run-up to a killing that has put pressure on Prime Minister David Cameron to take a harder line on radicals.
The Nairobi government initially said Adebolajo had never visited Kenya. But on Sunday, Boniface Mwaniki, head of Kenya's anti-terrorism police, said Adebolajo was arrested in November 2010 and deported to Britain.
"He was arrested with a group of five others trying to travel to Somalia to join militant group al Shabaab," he told Reuters.
The Islamist force, which is linked to al Qaeda, wants to impose a strict version of Islamic law across Somalia.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman in London confirmed the arrest and said consular officials had provided assistance.
Adebolajo, 28 and Michael Adebowale, 22, are under guard in hospital after being shot and arrested after the murder of the 25-year-old Afghan war veteran. They have not been charged.
Spy agencies have come under scrutiny after uncorroborated allegations by a friend of Adebolajo on Friday that intelligence officers tried to recruit him six months ago.
Asked whether the security services had contacted the men, Home Secretary (interior minister) Theresa May told the BBC: "Their job is about gathering intelligence. They do that from a variety of sources and they will do that in a variety of ways. And yes, they will approach individuals from time to time."
A source close to the investigation told Reuters this week that both suspects were known to the MI5 domestic security service. However, neither was thought to pose a serious threat.
'POISONOUS NARRATIVE'
The government also said it is forming a group to combat radical Muslim preachers and others whose words could encourage violence.
Prime Minister David Cameron's office said the group aimed to fight radicalism in schools and mosques, tighten checks on inflammatory internet material, and disrupt the "poisonous narrative" of hardline clerics.
Rigby's killing fuelled public anger about radical Islam. It has also raised questions over whether more could have done more to prevent the attack and put pressure on Cameron to tackle suspected militants more forcefully.
Witnesses said the soldier's killers shouted Islamist slogans during the attack. Bystanders filmed one of the suspects saying it was in revenge for Britain's involvement in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Successive British governments have wrestled with how to prevent people from becoming radicalised without alienating the wider population with draconian measures.
Former British prime minister Tony Blair tried to tighten rules against hate preachers after the London bombings in 2005 that killed 52 commuters. The measures stirred a long debate over how to balance free speech and civil rights with a strong counter-terrorism strategy.
Britain's two-party coalition government is divided over a planned new law that would allow police and spy agencies to monitor people's use of the internet and mobile phones.
The Muslim Council of Britain, a religious umbrella group, said new government measures risked "making our society less free, divided and suspicious of each other".

More parents are putting off a child's kindergarten entry so he or she will be a little older than the classmates. It's a phenomenon known as redshirting.
"The reasons parents choose to redshirt their child vary, depending on the child's emotional, social and academic readiness to join school," Dana Vela, president of Sunrise Preschools, in Arizona, said in an interview with ABCNews.com.
"It has always been in practice, but it has gotten more attention recently and people are talking more about it," said Vela, a mother of three and a preschool teacher for 25 years.
Parents might think their child is not emotionally ready to leave home, or not socially or academically adept. Some parents are even delaying schooling to give their children a competitive advantage in sports, or to delay admission age to college.
A joint study by the University of Virginia and Stanford University released in 2013 established a relationship between red shirting and socio-economic status and ethnicity. "We find that between 4 and 5.5 percent of children delay kindergarten, a lower number than typically reported? We find substantial variation in practices across schools, with schools serving larger proportions of white and high-income children having far higher rates of delayed entry," noted the report, "The Extent, Patterns, and Implications of Kindergarten 'Redshirting,'" issued in April 2013.
Missing Gina DeJesus Returns Home to Cheers Watch Video Audrie Pott's Dad: Stop Epidemic of Sexual Assault Watch VideoAccording to a report issued by the National Center for Education Statistics in spring 2011, the scores for kindergarten entry were higher for delayed-entry kindergartners and on-time kindergartners than for repeating kindergartners.
"Even though most school districts want the child to be at least at the age of five, the cut-off date for joining differs according to school district and state," said Vela.
There are mixed results on whether redshirting is helpful for the child in the long run. A study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research in 2011 said that starting kindergarten one year late "substantially reduces the probability of repeating the third grade, and meaningfully increases in tenth grade math and reading scores. Effects are highest for low income students and males." Alternately, estimates suggest that entering kindergarten early may also have detrimental effect on future outcomes.
Redshirting poses challenges not only to children but to teachers and parents.
"The teacher is mostly impacted by it. They are dealing with children of ages ranging between four and a half and six and a half. This is a large developmental gap when trying to get through the state standard curricula," said Vela.
"The student will develop a persona that they are always bigger, better, and have the upper hand, which might be challenging in their future," she said.
Tracy Gibb, a mother, blogger of Less than Perfect, deliberately redshirted her son because she thought he was emotionally immature. Her son, now 13, has a best friend one year younger than he is.

The post-PC world is already dumbing young people down. Way down.
I?m hearing accounts by hiring managers that new applicants right out of school often lack not only basic ?computing? skills (for example, they don?t really know how to do a Google search), but they lack the imagination, creativity or curiosity to even learn those skills.
There may be multiple causes for this phenomenon, but I?m here to throw the post-PC world under the school bus.
The Great Delusion
There?s a common delusion that existed since home computers first came on the market, which is that using a computer teaches kids about computers.
I?ll never forget the look of satisfaction I?ve seen on the face of some non-technical teachers watching their students typing a story on a PC and believing that kids using computers ?prepares them for a high-tech workforce.?
Nowadays, teens, kids and even toddlers are using tablets and phones at ever younger ages. Teachers and parents marvel at their skill with these devices and believe falsely that this builds a foundation for science or technology.
In fact, it does the opposite. It prepares them to be passive consumers and users of consumer products and their apps.
The problem is increased with post-PC devices, info appliances like the iPhone and iPad, which are the default devices that many parents are giving their kids.
Now, don?t get me wrong. I love the post PC world. I just don?t think the easy-to-use, locked-down, our-way-or-the-highway iOS platform is good for young minds.
Post-PC Breeds Passivity
One of the most underappreciated ironies in technology is found in the history of Apple.
The company started with Steve Wozniak building what was arguably the world?s first personal computer, the Apple II. Before that he build the Apple I, which was more of a computer for other hackers.
Woz was and is a super-genius. His first two Apple computers were marvels of efficiency and simplicity in the use of components (which lowered the cost).
Woz was able to invent the future because he had a hacker mentality, that combination of burning curiosity, patience and creativity that enables people to figure things out though epic trial-and-error. He was a tweaker, solderer, tester, reverse-engineer, dumpster diver and code experimenter.
The irony is that the company that this super-hacker co-founded would evolve into the company that?s evolving toward unhackable products. (You can still jailbreak an iPhone, but for how long?)
But jailbreak or no, the fact is that kids raised on iOS are unlikely to develop an appreciation of what?s possible with technology. It drives them to become consumers of apps and accessories where every problem is solved by downloading someone else?s app.
And the effects of this are being seen now as Post-PC kids are entering the workforce. These kids grew up in a world in which consumer electronics hand them everything on a platter.
We do have options for kids who are naturally inspired to explore and hack with technologies. And it helps enormously when parents and schools facilitate these impulses by making the right kinds of resources available.
But the default mode now is that kids see their parents using phones. They beg them to try it. Parents hand them the phone and that?s where the trouble begins. They learn right away that technology is a black box, a magic place to shop for passive entertainment.
The most extreme version of this mode is the iPhone. But the best Android phones aren?t far behind. The Samsungs and the HTC Ones all custom design a user interface designed with the same purpose in mind as the iOS interface ? to push entertainment, social networking and shopping at the user and distract the user from the fact that they could be exploring the machine itself and figuring out how it works.
And that?s one reason why a Nexus 4 is a nice option for kids? first ?computer.?
3 Reasons Why a Nexus 4 is a Great First ?Computer?
There are three reasons why the Nexus 4 is a great first phone or even first computer.
The first is that it?s a fun device to use. It has a big screen and appealing design. (Do get a protective case for it.) Kids will like it. And it?s important that kids are excited about their personally owned technology.
The second reason is that it?s cheap. At $300 unlocked, it won?t be such a big disaster if it?s lost, stolen or broken.
And the third and best reason is that the Nexus 4 is less likely to turn your child into an airhead than an iPhone or another phone with a handset-maker designed interface.
The Google-designed user interface invites customization, for starters. Customization can be a gateway drug to exploration and hacking.
If a child is inclined to follow curiosity about the device, they can go pretty far with a Nexus 4 because it?s rootable, ROMable and therefore hackable.
The combination of owning a Nexus 4 and a parent that nudges that kid toward online information for how to modify, optimize, customize, alter and ultimately hack their phone will truly give kids an early advantage over kids handed in iPhone and told to go shopping.
Later, if you get them a laptop of some kind, don?t give them the home WiFi password. Tell them if they want Internet connectivity they need to root their Nexus and figure out tethering.
Software that actively encourages coding and hacking is great. But there?s no substitution for simply leaving a curious kid alone with a hackable device and letting that child explore unguided.
Who knows? Maybe your kid will grow up to found the next Apple. After all, the Apples of the world are started by hackers, not kids who grew up on today?s Apple.

BERLIN (AP) ? An auctioneer says one of Apple's first computers ? a functioning 1976 model ? has been sold for a record 516,000 euros ($668,000).
German auction house Breker said Saturday an Asian client, who asked not to be named, bought the so-called Apple 1, which the tech company's founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built in a family garage.
Breker claims it is one of only six known remaining functioning models in the world. Breker already sold one last year for 492,000 euros.
It says the computer bears Wozniak's signature. An old business transaction letter from the late Jobs also was included.
The Apple 1, which was sold for $666 in 1976, consisted of only the circuit board. A case, a keyboard and a screen had to be bought separately.

Software solutions don't just market themselves. One can ask themselves, did Windows gain popularity in a day? Or even Macintosh at that? It took the original programmers of these software a lot of hard work to get the popularity they have today.
Today, software solutions come by another name, especially to business owners. Nowadays, these solutions can also be called ERP; also known as Enterprise Resource Planning solutions. It is because a company does not need a simple software that only does commands and applications for leisure activities. They are in need of applications that contribute to the welfare and growth of their company's operations, functions, and even their finances.
True enough, there are tons of ERP programmers and resellers that offer such needed computer applications to those who need them.
As stated earlier within this article, such organizations that offer these solutions need to work hard to market their software. This may cost them quite a lot in terms of expending their resources, their effort, their time, and their money. To deal with this situation, they can acquire the aid of professionals found in telemarketing firms.
Professional telemarketing firms can aid programmers, manufacturers, and resellers of ERP solutions, especially when it comes to their software lead generation. To generate quality ERP leads, professional telemarketers take charge of their client's marketing campaign with the use of their expertise and various tools to help them in achieving a profitable outcome from their campaign.
Let us look into these things with more detail.
First of all, their expertise; generating ERP leads should be dealt with the right level of knowledge and understanding about the prospect's industry. Additionally, the sales representative should know by heart the various talking skills to pique the interests of said leads. Telemarketing firms are constantly in the know about the latest trends in software lead generation campaigns and incorporate them into the minds of their professionals.
Secondly, let us take notice of the tool they use for software lead generation. Primarily, they have a highly detailed and very lengthy list of potential clients to contact. This way, the software developer or the seller can be promised of a lot of leads to which are sales ready and almost willing to undergo with the purchase of said ERP solutions
Lastly, let us take into consideration the pipeline that they use. It is an innovation for the telemarketing firm's clients to immediately know, realtime in fact, of the coming appointments that have been set with their ERP leads. Hence, they can immediately act if a business appointment has been set and they can act accordingly to convert said prospect into a certified client of their software solution.
ERP software developers and resellers should take heed in outsourcing their lead generation campaign as quickly as possible. They should remember that they are not the only software organization in this earth and they are not the only ones who know of the immense aid of professional telemarketers. If they spend too much time contemplating on whether or not they should outsource to expert call center agents, then they risk their competitors getting ahead of them with each second they waste.
Claire Hansen works as a marketing communications program manager. She is inviting you to visit http://www.erpsoftwareleads.com/ to learn more about lead generation and appointment setting for the software industry.

Scientists have uncovered a survival mechanism that occurs in breast cells that have just turned premalignant-cells on the cusp between normalcy and cancers-which may lead to new methods of stopping tumors.
In their Molecular Cell study, the Salk Institute researchers report that a protein known as transforming growth factor beta (TGF-?), considered a tumor suppressor in early cancer development, can actually promote cancer once a cell drifts into a pre-cancerous state.
The discovery-a surprise to the investigators-raises the tantalizing possibility that, with novel treatment, some cancers might be prevented before they even develop.
"Our work suggests it might be possible to halt cancer development in premalignant cells-those that are just a few divisions away from being normal," says the study's lead author, Fernando Lopez-Diaz, a researcher in the Regulatory Biology Laboratory at Salk.
Agents designed to inhibit TGF-? are already being tested against cancers that have already spread, says Beverly M. Emerson, a Salk professor, head of the lab and the study's senior author. "This study offers both significant insights into early cancer development and a new direction to explore in cancer treatment," she says. "It would be fantastic if a single agent could shut down both advanced cancer and cancer that is primed to develop."
Oncologists might also be able to use their discovery to predict whether premalignant cells in a patient are destined to become full-fledged cancer, Emerson adds. "Not all premalignant cells morph into cancer," she says. "Many self-destruct due to cellular protective mechanisms. But some will become tumors and, at this point, there is no way to predict which of these cells are a risk."
The two faces of TGF-?
TGF-? molecules are secreted proteins found in most human tissues. They play a number of different biological roles, including controlling cell proliferation and inflammation and assisting in wound healing.
The prevailing dogma in cancer research is that TGF-? signaling keep cells from morphing into cancer, says Lopez-Diaz. Scientists also recognized that cancer cells that "want" to spread learn how to use TGF-? wound-healing function to break from a tumor, he says.
Another protein, P53 is a known tumor suppressor. During the stress response that occurs as a cell becomes cancerous, and in response to chemotherapy, p53 attempts to repair DNA damage that has occurred, and, if not successful, p53 orders the cell to die. "The p53 pathway must be sabotaged for cells to become cancerous," Lopez-Diaz says. "This happens when its gene becomes mutated, if the p53 protein is exaggeratedly degraded or, less appreciated, if p53 biosynthesis is impeded."
The researchers conducted this study to learn exactly how p53 and TGF-? interact in cancer development. "For the past decade, everyone has believed that these two pathways work together in normal and premalignant cells to stop cancer, even though there was not much data to support this assumption," he says.
The team examined premalignant as well as cancer cells from breast and lung tumors and matched normal and premalignant breast cells from healthy women provided by scientists at the University of California San Francisco.
But no matter how many different ways they did their experiments, the Salk researchers found that TGF-? can interfere with cells' damage responses in premalignant or cancer cells.
In fact, they found that TGF-? halts both the transcription of the p53 gene-the process by which cellular machinery reads the DNA code for a gene-and the subsequent process by which the corresponding p53 protein is produced, known as translation.
This could explain why, in about half of the breast tumors, including premalignant lesions, that the team studied at both UC San Francisco and at Sanford Burnham Medical Research Institute, when TGF-?1 signaling was highly activated, the levels of p53 were reduced, and vice versa-if the TGF-?1 pathway was reduced, there were high levels of p53. " A similar trend was seen with PUMA, a protein which induces cell death," Fernando Lopez-Diaz adds. "There was rather abundant PUMA protein when little TGF-?1 activation existed and vice versa."
"The bad face of TGF-? emerged within just a few cell divisions away from normality, allowing cells to avoid death," he says.
Filling in the cancer puzzle
This newfound immortality explains many oncologic mysteries, Lopez-Diaz says. "One is that it sheds light on how premalignant and early cancer cells are able to withstand the assault of chemotherapy and other treatments," he says.
It may explain why 77 percent of breast cancers have a normal p53 gene, and it further suggests a way that cancer cells can use both to metastasize and survive the journey to organs where they set up a new home.
"Because it helps cells avoid death, TGF-? can reduce the negative impact that the metastatic process has in the cancer cells," Lopez-Diaz says.
He adds that there is much work yet to do. "We want to understand the signals that turn TGF-? into a bad guy," he says. "If we know that, we might be able to inhibit those signals, and force damaged cells to die, as they should. That may offer us another treatment possibility, along with TGF-? inhibitors now being tested."

Anyone who's seen Taylor Swift's video for her single "22" off of her latest "Red" album would have watched a preternaturally lovely young woman in perfect makeup dancing around with her similarly lovely leggy friends having a delightful time eating cake, waving pom-poms, cuddling up on the beach as the sun rises, bouncing on trampolines and wearing too-adorable cat ears while partying with her buds.
All this while singing about "feeling 22" years old.
Yeah, right, says Conan O'Brien. In a recent "video response," the host of "Conan" is equal parts funny and deeply personal as he points out that Swift's video has virtually nothing to do with actually being 22. "I know what it's like to be 22," says the 50-year-old. "I don't think that that's an accurate representation of being 22."
He then goes on to talk about how 22 is about living in a crummy apartment, eating Ramen noodles, getting excited to go see the new movie "St. Elmo's Fire" (around here is where the whole response starts getting personal) and buying a cheap car with a broken air conditioner.
"You're a freak so no one talks to you," said O'Brien. "You just sit in your apartment, you watch 'Saved by the Bell' and eat Ramen noodles. Occasionally you spice it up by having Lucky Charms."
Okay, so that might not be everybody's experience of being 22. But it's a darn sight more realistic than the adorable vision presented by Swift. Check out the video for more.

One of the Xbox launch's big reveals was that Microsoft added 300,000 servers to Xbox Live, and now GM Matt Booty has detailed to Ars Technica how that'll improve game play. He said the improved cloud architecture will speed up GPU- or CPU-heavy chores that aren't dependent on latency -- like lighting or cloth dynamics -- by pre-calculating them before applying them to a scene. To make that happen, the Xbox One server cloud will provide three virtual devices for "every Xbox one available in your living room." It'll be up to game developers to manage transitions between console-only and cloud assisted graphics, though, since the first few seconds of lighting in a new scene will need to be handled by the console before servers can take over. Of course, that means many titles may look better when you're online, but he added that you'll still be able to play if the internet is cut and "the game is going to have to intelligently handle that."

It's the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, which means all the teams do something a little special. Lotus has Daft Punk on their side pods. But Sebastian Vettel
Vettel's helmet is meant as a tribute to Monaco Grands Prix past, with moments from some of the greatest races that the event has ever seen on top of his lid.
But around back is a pinup girl in a dainty black swimsuit. That's kind of risque, but still pretty normal for F1, especially for Monaco. What makes it change is the use of heat activated paint.
When it gets warm, her black outfit disappears to reveal her body, as well as two stars where her, ahem, 'lady buttons' would show. His over-the-shoulder on-board camera should be a hoot to watch Sunday morning.
And in other, less exciting custom Monaco helmet news, Lewis Hamilton

You do not want to rush through meetings because of late or on time arrivals. Choose a predictable jetliner that sticks to the schedule and will allow you ample time to make prior preparations before appearing for that first dinner date or presenting a business proposal. Time is crucial to every prospective person.
Getting good service requires your cooperation with the operators. Once you have got a reliable service provider, stick to them. This is going to be a life time relationship. You could also recommend them to your friends who may need such services. Jet chartering need not be a difficult task. If anything, it should be fun. It is a very convenient form of transport. Take time and choose the best jet charter Los Angeles has.

Stanford players dump water over head coach Lele Forood as she gives an interview to Dave Kozlowski on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana, Ill.(Photo: Stephen Haas, AP)
URBANA, Ill. (AP) ? With Kristie Ahn back in the lineup after missing parts of the last two seasons, 12th-seeded Stanford was a different team.
The Cardinal completed a string of upsets by defeating No. 3 Texas A&M 4-3 for the NCAA women's tennis championship Tuesday night.
"For Kristie Ahn to clinch, it's poetic justice," Stanford coach Lele Forood said. "She's been the missing player for us the last two years. We weren't able to get it done without her."
Ankle and foot injuries slowed Ahn, and hurt her neck in a bus accident.
Yet Ahn was already pondering the night before about "how sick it would be if I clinched," she said.
The thought kept crossing her mind during 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win over Cristina Stancu to wrap up Stanford's 17th national championship and seventh under Forood.
"I was thinking about how absurd it was coming down to me," Ahn said. "It's a big moment, highlight of life."
Stanford (22-4) overcame a "brutal draw," Forood said.
Stanford ended top-seeded Florida's run toward a third consecutive championship and knocked off fourth-seeded Georgia and fifth-seeded USC over the previous four days.
The Cardinal were the lowest-seeded team to reach the championship match since 2007.
"It was an interesting and extremely rewarding ride for us," Forood said. "We had our ups and downs, but we came to play when it counted."
The best part about the title wasn't dumping a bucket of cold water on Forood or holding the national championship trophy, Ahn said. It's the trip to the White House, just another part of the spoils.
"My team is a bunch of nerds," Ahn said. "We love politics. I can't tell you the dinner conversations we have. It's too much about substance."
When Stanford's Nicole Gibbs rallied for a 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, the Cardinal gained some momentum. Gibbs won NCAA singles and doubles titles last season.
"I felt bad for her," Forood said. "I wanted her to find a way to get back in the match. Early in the second set, she said, 'I have to win this match. I have to do things differently.' "
Stacey Tan secured Stanford's other singles victory, a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Ines Deheza.
Anna Mamalat grabbed the first of three consecutive singles victories for the Aggies that tied the match at 3-3. Mamalat defeated Ellen Tsay 6-1, 7-5. Texas A&M's Nazari Urbina downed Krista Hardebeck 6-3, 7-6 and the Aggies' Stefania Hristov beat Natalie Dillon 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
Stanford earned the doubles point, despite an 8-3 loss by Ahn and Gibbs to Stancu and Hristov. Stacey Tan and Tsay defeated the Aggies' Wen Sun and Sanchez-Quintanar 8-4, and Stanford's Dillon and Hardebeck secured the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Deheza and Paula Deheza.
In its second season under coach Howard Joffe, Texas A&M (26-4) made its first appearance in the championship match after reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals for the first time in school history.
"The trajectory and speed we've come from nowhere, so to speak, is somewhat startling," Joffe said.
